Peer-to-peer ephemeral public communities
Open source, self-governing communities with auditable moderation and
mod elections
Aether is currently available for Windows, Mac and Linux โ we're still working on our ${OS} app.
If you'd like to get a download link for later, join the mailing list below and we'll send you the links.
๐ป Ephemeral
It keeps 6 months of posts by default. It's gone after. If
something is worth keeping, someone will save it within six months โ but
not from beyond that.
If you screw up, argue for the wrong opinion, and then think otherwise,
that's okay. No one is going to come after you โย it gives you the
freedom to be wrong, and move on.
๐ Privacy-sensitive
It's peer-to-peer, and it has no servers. It's privacy sensitive
because of that, source IP of any specific public post cannot
(easily) be determined.
Aether is private by default, so that you can choose to be fully
private, or fully public yourself. Most people use pseudonyms, though
you can use your real name, or company.
๐ฎ Transparent
Actions of moderators are visible to users.
No content can just 'disappear', if something gets deleted,
you'll know who did it, why they did it, and if you want, how to get it
back.
Everyone watches the watchmen. Moderation is important for healthy
communities, and Aether adds onto it some checks-and-balances.
๐จ Democratic
Communities can elect and impeach their own mods by voting. If a
mod behaves inappropriately, users can disable that mod locally as well.
Doing so reverts all changes by that moderator for the user, and counts
for one impeachment vote.

"I totally love that 'dark mode' is just the default.
its like you understand me as a person. thanks, my dude!"
โ @Fight_For_Freedom
"Dude,
this app is like the best social media app I have ever used.
It just needs more active users which looks like it is well on its way.
Maybe a bit more features would be nice, but
the core idea and functionality looks great. Great job."
โ @Shake37
"Hi, just trying out Aether for the first time and
i've got to say it looks fantastic.
Looking forward to more updates.. Great work!"
โ @aetherjim
"UI feels really polished for how early it is. Been using Aether for
just under an hour, and
everything feels really smooth and clean. Also, Dark Mode <3"
โ @jay
"Dark mode is lovely. Font choice is great. It's not cramped. Totally
worth the wait from prior version to be testing this out. It's just a
nice layout, and I feel like it just
"breathes" much better and flows compared to the popular sites
like Reddit."
โ @AetherTester
"Aether is working really nicely! Good job! I don't see any major issues
with it.
It feels super stable and functional. All
basic features seem to work perfectly.
It doesn't even feel like a "beta". I also
really like the design, it doesn't look like "programmer art" at all.
This looks like someone who actually knows something about UX
designed it."
